Winslow Enclosure Award 29 April 1745
And as for and concerning all paths and passages for foot Passengers over and through the said Enclosures or any Part thereof We do direct appoint and order that no paths or passages for foot persons shall be used over and through the said Enclosures other than and Except the Public and Private Roads and Ways hereinbefore set out and described and also the paths or passages herein after mentioned, that is to say ...

One Ancient foot path leading from Winslow to Little Horwood ford over part of Linhill Field allotted to Richard Lowndes Esqr.

Also One other ancient foot path leading from Shipton to Swanbourne over the Land allotted to the said Vicar and to the said Richard Lowndes through Shade Lane.

Also One other ancient foot path leading from Shipton to Mursley over the Red Field through Shade Lane over the said Vicar's Land and the Land allotted to the said Richard Lowndes.

Also One other ancient foot path leading from Winslow to Hogston over Knowl Furlong in said Linhill field allotted to the said Richard Lowndes



Winslow Enclosure Award 28 May 1767

Inrolled and Examined by W.Minshull, Clerk of the Peace for the said County of Bucks 8 October 1767.


Foot Paths

And as to the Public Foot Paths or Ways to be made and used through and over the said new Enclosures We Do hereby ascertain set out appoint determine and award that there shall at all times for ever hereafter be and remain a Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from the North East Corner of a certain Close belonging to the said Robert Crockett called the Pickle Close into through and over the Allotments of the said John Budd Benjamin Ingram and William Lowndes to a certain Style at or near the Brook running between the open and common fields of Winslow and Great Horwood aforesaid

Also that there shall at all times forever hereafter be and remain alike Public Foot Path or Way at or near the North East Corner of the Allotment of the said John Budd through and over the Allotment of the said John Budd and from there into through and over the Allotment of the said William Lowndes Ann Seaton and the Poor of the Parish of Winslow aforesaid to a certain Style called Gallows Style leading into the Enclosures of Addington aforesaid

Also that there shall at all times for ever hereafter be and remain a like Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from the Style at or near the North East Corner of a certain ancient Enclosed Close belonging to the said William Burrell called or known by the Name of Angel Close into through and over the Allotment of the said John Budd until it meets and adjoins the last described Public Foot Path or Way at or near the North West Corner of the Allotment of the said John Budd

Also that there shall at all times for ever hereafter be and remain alike Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from the Style at the South East Corner of a certain Close called Pond Close belonging to the said William Lowndes into through and over the Allotments of the said William Lowndes William Webb Catherine Turner Stephen Gibbs John Jollyman and James Barton to a certain Style leading into the Enclosures of Addington aforesaid

Also that there shall at all times for ever hereafter be and remain alike Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from the West End of the Town of Winslow aforesaid into through and over the Allotments of the said William Hobbs John Rawbone and Samuel Norman to a certain Style leading into Addington Enclosures

Also that there shall at all times for ever hereafter be and remain alike Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from the North End of the Workhouse in Winslow aforesaid into through and over an Allotment of the said William Lowndes to a certain Style leading into Shipton Enclosures towards Little Horwood aforesaid

Also that there shall at all times for ever hereafter be and remain alike Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from a certain Style out of the said Turnpike Road leading from Winslow to Aylesbury at or near a certain Bridge or Plank called Cowbridge into through and over an Allotment to the said William Lowndes to a certain Gate and Style leading into an Ancient Enclosed Ground belonging to the said William Lowndes called or known by the Name of Knowl

Also that there shall at all times forever hereafter be and remain alike Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from a certain Style called Hanging Style in Winslow aforesaid into and through and over an Allotment of the said William Lowndes from there into through and over the several Allotments of the said William Hobbs Thomas Blake Jane and Francis Bailey and George Maydon and the Allotment of the said William Lowndes in lieu of his Great Tithes to a certain Style at or near East Claydon Planks leading towards Fast Claydon aforesaid

Also that there shall at all times forever hereafter be and remain alike Public Foot Path or Way of the Breadth of three feet as the same is now staked and set out from and out of the last described Public foot Path or Way from the Style at or near the North East Corner of the second Allotment of the said William Hobbs into through and over the second and fourth described Allotments of the said William Hobbs and from there into through and over the several Allotments of the said William Lowndes Richard Gibbs and Robert Parrott and the Allotment of the said William Lowndes to a certain Plank or foot Bridge leading into certain ancient Enclosures in the Parish of Grandborough aforesaid called Biggin farm Grounds ....

John Rawbone First Allotment

First we do assign set out allot and appoint unto and for John Rawbone and his successors Vicars of the said Vicarage and Parish Church of Winslow aforesaid such plot parcel or quantity of the lands and grounds by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid as is hereinafter described and which we do adjudge to be quantity and quality considered at the time of our making such allotment a full and equivalent and compensation for all glebe lands and right of common belonging to the said vicarage and bearing an improved value in the same or like proportion as near as may be with the other allotments hereinafter made to the several other proprietors and owners of the land lying in the said open and common fields common pastures common grounds and commonable lands of the township of Winslow aforesaid all that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in New Mill Field by the said act intended to be divided and enclosed containing 39a 2r 6p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the east on part of the north by the allotments herein awarded to William Hobbs on part of the south on other part of the east on other part of the south on other part of the east on other part of the north or north east by an allotment herein awarded to Susannah Bigg on the remaining part of the east on other part of the south by an allotment herein awarded to William Burrell on part of the west on the remaining part of the south by the second allotment herein awarded to the said John Rawbone in lieu of his Vicarial Tithes on the remaining part of the west on other part of the north by the allotment herein awarded to Samuel Norman Esq on other part of the north by an allotment herein awarded to Elizabeth Mayne on other part of the north by an allotment herein awarded to Catherine Turner on the remaining part of the north by an allotment herein awarded to William Webb

John Rawbone Second Allotment

All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in New Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed containing 41a 0r 13p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the north on part of the east by the allotment herein awarded to the said John Rawbone in lieu of his Glebe Land on part of the south on other part of the east on other part of the south by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Burrell on other parts of the south and east by the allotments herein awarded to William Lowndes Esq on part of the west by the old enclosures of Addington in the county of Bucks on other part of the north on other part of the west on other small part of the north on the remaining part of the west by an allotment herein awarded to the said John Rawbone in lieu of his tithes for ancient enclosures and on the remaining part of the north by an allotment herein awarded to Samuel Norman

John Rawbone Third Allotment

And all that other lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in New Mill Field by the said act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 3a 0r 10p exclusive of all roads and ways as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on several parts of the north and east by an allotment herein awarded to Constance Salisbury on other part of the north and east by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes on part of the south on the remaining part of the east on other part of the south by an allotment herein awarded to the said Catherine Turner on the remaining part of the south by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes and on the west by an allotment herein awarded to Stephen Gibbs and we do hereby further assure set out allot and appoint unto and for the said John Rawbone and his successors vicars of the parish church of Winslow aforesaid over and above and exclusive of the lands and grounds herewith before allotted him and them in lieu of and as compensation for the Glebe of the said Vicarage and the Vicarial or Small Tithes such plot parcel or quantity of the lands and grounds by the said act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid as is herein before described being the lands or part of and taken out of the lands and grounds by the said commissioners upon the said division set out forth allotments of the several owners and proprietors hereinafter mentioned that is to say Robert Lowndes Esq William Lowndes Esq William Hobbs Catherine Turner John Budd Francis Collins Thomas Blake William Burrell Robert Gibbs Thomas Prentice Mary Goldsworth Stephen Gibbs George Maydon Benjamin Ingram George Savage John Jellyman James Barton Ann Seaton xxx who are to be from henceforth for ever discharged from the payment of all tithes whatsoever in respect of the several and respective ancient tenements and ancient enclosures mentioned and contained xxx several and respective names inserted xxx hereto annexed marked with the letter A

John Rawbone Fourth Allotment

All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in New Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed containing 10a 3r 6p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded upon the east on small part of the south the remaining part of the east the remaining part of the south by the first allotment herein awarded to the said John Rawbone in lieu of his Vicarial Tithes on the west by the old enclosures of Addington in the county of Bucks and on the north by an allotment of the said Samuel Norman

William Lowndes compensation for making fences of Glebe land

We do herein assign and allot to the said William Lowndes and his heirs for ever as a compensation and satisfaction for making the said inward or subdividing fences as aforesaid the fences and mounds to be made for dividing separating and inclosing the said quality or quantity or plot of land or ground on those several parts of the south and east next the allotment herein awarded to the said Catherine Turner on the south next allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes and on the west next the allotment herein awarded to the said Stephen Gibbs

Poor Allotment

We do hereby ascertain set out and allot unto and for the use of the Poor of the Parish of Winslow all that plot piece or parcel or quantity of the land or ground by the said act intended to be divided and enclosed hereinafter described and which we do adjudge to be at the time of our making the said allotment of the yearly value of ? 10s that is to say All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in New Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 7a 3r 24p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes on part of the south on the remaining part of the east on other part of the south by an allotment herein awarded to Ann Seaton on the remaining part of the south and on the west by the old enclosures of Addington aforesaid and on the north by the Turnpike Road leading from Winslow to Buckingham

William Lowndes Allotment in Lieu of Great Tithes

We do hereby further ascertain set out allot and appoint unto and for the said William Lowndes impropriator of all the Great Tithes arising renewing increasing or happening in upon or payable out of the lands and grounds hereby intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid over and above and exclusive of the lands to be allotted him in lieu of his lands and grounds by the said Act intended to be enclosed as aforesaid in lieu of and in full compensation for all tithes and payments for tithes whatsoever due and payable to the said William Lowndes out of any lands or grounds by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid and which we adjudge to be at the time of our making the said allotment a full equivalent and compensation for all the said Impropriate or Great Tithes belonging to him the said William Lowndes as aforesaid arising or payable out of the said lands and grounds bearing an improved value in the same or like proportion as near as may be with the other titheable allotments made to the several other proprietors and owners of the lands and grounds by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in Demoram Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 184a 0r 23p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the east by the allotment of the said William Burrell on part of the south and on part of the east on other part of the south or south east by the allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes on other part of the east south west and north by the brook dividing the old enclosures of East Claydon in the said County of Bucks from the open fields by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed on other parts of the west north or north east by the old enclosures of Addington aforesaid and on the remaining parts of the west north and north east by the allotment herein awarded to the said John Rawbone in lieu of his tithes

William Lowndes First Allotment Also to the said William Lowndes in lieu and in full compensation for such pieces and parcels of ground and right of common and all other rights whatsoever thereto belonging in over and upon the said open and common fields common pastures and common meadow common grounds and commonable lands by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid being his estate in settlement the nine several allotments hereinafter next mentioned and described that is to say All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the New Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 56a 1r 18p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to the William Aldridge on part of the south on other part of the east on part of the north on other part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to the Roger West on other part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to George Savage on the remaining part of the east by an allotment of the said William Lowndes on the south by the Turnpike Road leading from Winslow to Buckingham on the west by the old enclosures of Addington aforesaid and on several parts of the north and east by the brook dividing the common fields of Great Horwood in the said County of Bucks from the open fields by the said Act intended to be divided and anclosed

William Lowndes Second Allotment

Also to the said William Lowndes all that other or second lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the New Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 43a 2r 9p exclusive of all roads and ways as the same is now admeasured staked and set out which said last mentioned lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground is bounded on part of the south on part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to Benjamin Ingram on other part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to John Budd on part of the south on part of the east part of the north by a certain small piece of land called the Mill Garden on the remaining part of the east by the allotment of the said John Budd on other part of the south on a small part of the west on other part of the south by a certain spinney near the Fish Pond of the said William Lowndes on other part of the west and south by the tenth allotment of the said William Lowndes on other part of the south or south west by the allotment of the said Catherine Turner on other part of the west and south by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes as a satisfaction for making the subdivision fences of the said John Rawbone on other part of the west and south by the allotment of the said Constance Salisbury and other part of the west and the remaining part of the south by the allotment of the said Ann Seaton on the remaining part of the west by the said allotment awarded to the said William Lowndes and on the north by the turnpike road leading from Winslow to Buckingham aforesaid.

William Lowndes Third Allotment

Also to the said William Lowndes all that other or third lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the Old Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 126a 2r 27p (exclusive of the public roads passing through and over the same) as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on several parts of east and north and on a small part of the south by the old enclosures of Shipton in the parish of Winslow aforesaid on other parts of the south and east by an allotment herein awarded to John Perkins on other part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes on part of the south by the said turnpike road leading from Winslow to Aylesbury on part of the west on other part of the south on the remaining part of the east by an ancient enclosure of the said William Lowndes now in the occupation of William Gibbs on other part of the south by certain ancient gardens and cottages in Winslow aforesaid on other parts of the west and south by the ancient enclosures and gardens of the said William Lowndes on other parts of the south and west by certain other ancient cottages and gardens in Winslow aforesaid on other parts of the north and west by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes on other part of the west by the allotment herein awarded to William Firth on other part of the west on other part of the south by an allotment herein awarded to the said Benjamin Ingram on the remaining part of the south by the said turnpike road leading from Winslow to Buckingham aforesaid on other part of the west by the allotment of the said William Aldridge on other part of the north and on the remaining parts of the south and west by an allotment herein awarded to the said Benjamin Ingram and on the remaining part of the north or north east by the common field of Great Horwood aforesaid.

William Lowndes Fourth Allotment

All that other or fourth lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in Old Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 162 acres 2 roods and 22 perches exclusive of the Private Road passing through and over the same as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and Bounded on the East by the old Enclosures of Shipton aforesaid on other parts of the East South West and North by the open Fields of the Parish of Granborough in the said County of Bucks on part of the West or South West on other part of the South on other part of the West by an Allotment herein awarded to Richard Gibbs on other part of the West and South by an Allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes on other part of the West by an Allotment herein awarded to Francis Collins on other part of the North on other part of the West by the Allotments herein awarded to the said William Hobbs on other part of the West and on a small part of the South by the Allotment of the said Catherine Turner on other part of the West by the ancient enclosure of Thomas Blake now in the occupation of Richard Norwood on other part of the North on other part of the West on other part of the South by the Garden Ground belonging to the Pesthouse of Winslow aforesaid on other part of the South by the said ancient Inclosure of Thomas Blake in the occupation of the said Richard Norwood on other part of the West by the home close of the said Thomas Blake on other parts of the North and West by a certain ancient Enclosed Close belonging to the said William Lowndes now in the occupation of Joseph Piddington on other part of the North by the Garden belonging to the Dwelling House of John Clarke on other part of the North and the remaining part of the East on other part of the North on other part of the West by certain ancient Enclosures belonging to and in the occupation of the said William Lowndes and other parts of the North and West by certain ancient gardens and homestalls in Winslow aforesaid and in the remaining part of the North by the said Turnpike Road leading from Winslow to Aylesbury aforesaid

William Lowndes Fifth Allotment

Also to the said William Lowndes all that other or fifth lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in Demoram Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 121a 3r 29p exclusive of the public road passing through and over the same as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the east by the allotment herein awarded to George Maydon on part of the south on other part of the east on part of the north by an allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes on other part of the north on part of the east by the allotment herein awarded to the said Thomas Blake on other part of the south on other part of the east by the allotment herein awarded to the said Francis Collins on other part of the south on other part of the east on other part of the south on other part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to Robert Parr on other parts of the east and south by the old enclosures of Granborough aforesaid on other parts of the east south and west by the brook that runs between the open and common fields of Granborough and Winslow aforesaid on those several parts of the east and south by the brook which runs between East Claydon enclosure and the common fields of Winslow aforesaid on the west north and east by a certain close of ground belonging to the Rt Hon the Earl Verney now in the occupation of John Cox on other parts of the east south and west by the brook running between East Claydon old enclosures and the common fields of Winslow aforesaid on other part of the west or north west on other part of the west on other part of the north by the allotment herein awarded to the said William Lowndes in lieu of the great tithes and on the remaining part of the north by the allotment of the said William Burrell.

Samuel Norman First allotment

To Samuel Norman Esq in lieu of and full compensation for 38 computed copyhold acres pieces and parcels of ground and right of common and all other rights whatsoever thereto belonging in over and upon the said common fields common pastures common meadows common grounds and commonable lands by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid the two several allotments hereinafter next mentioned and described that is to say All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the New Mill Field by the said act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 19a 1r 26p exclusive of the public road passing through and over the same as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on a small part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to Elizabeth Mayne on part of the south and on the remaining part of the east by the allotment herein awarded to the said John Rawbone in lieu of his Glebe land on the remaining part of the south by the allotment herein awarded to the said John Rawbone in lieu of his Tithes on the west by the ancient enclosures of Addington aforesaid and oth the north by the allotment herein awarded to the said Samuel Norman

Samuel Norman Second Allotment

Also to the said Samuel Norman Esq All that other or second lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in New Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 6a 0r 25p exclusive of the public road passing through and over the same as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on a small part of the east or north east by an allotment herein awarded to John Jellyman on other part of the east or north east by an allotment herein awarded to the said Stephen Gibbs on other part of the east on part of the south on other part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to the said Mary Goldsworth on the remaining part of the east by an allotment herein awarded to the said Elizabeth Mayne on the remaining part of the south by an allotment herein awarded to the said Samuel Norman and on the west or north west by the old enclosures of Addington aforesaid

Samuel Norman Third Allotment

Also to the said Samuel Norman in lieu of and full compensation for 4 computed freehold acres pieces and parcels of ground and right of common and all other rights whatsoever thereto belonging All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the New Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 3a 2r 38p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on the east by the allotment of the said Elizabeth Mayne on the south by the allotment herein awarded to the said Samuel Norman on the west by the old enclosures of Addington aforesaid and on the north by an allotment herein awarded to the said Samuel Norman

Thomas Blake First Allotment

To the said Thomas Blake in lieu of and full compensation for 26 computed freehold acres pieces and parcels of ground and right of common and all other rights whatsoever thereto belonging in over and upon the said common fields common pastures common meadows common grounds and commonable lands by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid all that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in Demoram Field by the said act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 13a 2r 23p exclusive of the public roads passing through or over the same as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on the east by the allotments herein awarded to the said William Hobbs on part of the south on the remaining part of the east on other part of the south by the allotment of the said Francis Collins on part of the west on the remaining part of the south and west by the allotments of the said William Lowndes on part of the north or north west by the allotment herein awarded to the said George Maydon on other part of the north or north west by an allotment herein awarded to Jane and Frances Bayly and on the remaining part of the north or north west by an allotment herein awarded to the said Thomas Blake.

Thomas Blake Second Allotment

To the said Thomas Blake in full compensation for sixty computed freehold acres pieces and parcels of ground and right of common and all other rights whatsoever thereto belonging all that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the Demoram Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 33a 1r 3p as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the east on part of the north by a certain ancient enclosure in Winslow aforesaid belonging to the said Robert Lowndes now in the occupation of Thomas Newman on other part of the east on other parts of the east and north by the allotment of the said William Lowndes on part of the east by the said lane called Locketts Lane or street on part of the south on other part of the east on other part of the south by a certain cottage and garden in Winslow aforesaid belonging to Ann Eden widow on the remaining part of the east by an allotment of the said William Hobbs on other part of the south or south east by an allotment of the said Thomas Blake on part of the west by the allotment of the said Jane and Frances Bailey on other part of the west on the remaining part of the south by the allotment of the said William Burrell on the remaining part of the west by the allotment of the said Susannah Bigg and on the remaining part of the north by an allotment of the said William Hobbs.

William Burrell

To William Burrell in lieu of and full compensation for 43 computed copyhold acres pieces and parcels of ground and right of common and all other rights whatsoever thereto belonging in over and upon the said common fields common pastures common meadows common grounds and commonable lands by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the Demoram and New Mill Fields by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 27a 3r 1p exclusive of the public road passing through and over the same as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on part of the north and part of the east by an allotment of the said Thomas Blake on part of the south on the remaining part of the east by an allotment of the said Jane and Frances Bailey on part of the south by an allotment of the said George Maydon on the remaining part of the south on part of the west by an allotment of the said William Lowndes on part of the north on other part of the west on other part of the north by the allotment of the said John Rawbone in lieu of his Glebe land on other part of the west or north west by the allotment of the said Susannah Bigg

William Firth

To William Firth in lieu of and full compensation for ? acre of land and right of common and all other rights whatsoever thereto belonging in over and upon the said open and common fields common pastures common meadows common grounds and commonable lands by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid All that lot plot piece or parcel of land or ground lying in the Old Mill Field by the said Act intended to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid containing 0a 1r 3p exclusive of the private road passing through and over the same as the same is now admeasured staked and set out and bounded on the east by an allotment of the said William Lowndes on the south by another allotment of the said William Lowndes and herein exchanged with the said William Firth on the west by the said Turnpike Road leading from Winslow to Buckingham aforesaid and on the north by an [allotment] of the said Benjamin Ingram
